    Hi,

I've got an original dvd with some subtitles, but not in my own language. I've translated the English subtitle, and want to add this to the original dvd. This is no problem, following this guide (thanks to the author!). Now what I'm trying to do is to link the French subtitle button (because I don't use that one) to the new translated subtitle (so actually replace the French subtitle with a new subtitle). Is there any way to do this?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. I think the second scenario from my guide fits what you want:
    2. You wish to add subtitles in a different language, and you want to replace an existing subtitle with yours which you created on your own, or downloaded from somewhere. In the subtitle menu you wish to erase the language name you're replacing, and write in the language of your new subtitle.

If I'm correct (never a sure thing), you won't be editing the button, but just replacing some text.

    Thank you for your reply.

I already found your guide, but I can't really figure out how it works. All my menus are still menus though, but I can't find out how to replace a subtitle with another. Could you please help me a bit with it?

    Cheers

  4. Save out the still subtitle menu as a BMP. Edit it to replace the original text that says 'French' with whatever language yours is (Dutch?). Then follow the guide to stick the edited BMP back into the DVD using VobBlanker. If I understand correctly what you're doing, it's all explained at the bottom of the guide in the "The Easy Way".

Didn't you already say that you made the DVD, successfully replacing one subtitle with another? So you already have a working DVD, but the subtitle menu says "French" and you want it to say something else (Dutch)?

Maybe if you post a picture of this menu it'll make things clearer to me.

Well, actually it's the opposite I already edited the menu, so "French" is already changed into "Dutch". Now I want to link the French/Dutch button to my translated subtitle. Perhaps I make it harder then it is....

  6. If all you did was replace the French subs with the Dutch subs, why doesn't the button still serve to have the now Dutch subs play? What happens when you hit that button? Nothing? Didn't you use the original menus and menu commands? That guide is obsolete and there are much better ways to get a reauthored DVD back into the original DVD. Like Baldrick's guide here:

    https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/277950-How-to-add-new-subtitles-to-an-existing-DVD

    I prefer his second method.

Maybe I'm just being dense. Maybe someone else can help. Good luck.

When I'm using that guide, the new subtitle is added to the dvd, and can only be selected by the 'subtitle' button on my remote control (right?). But I want to replace the (original) French subtitle with my own translated (Dutch) subtitle so I can activate the subtitle in the original dvd menu. That guide doesn't explain how to do that (please correct me if I'm wrong! ).

    Cheers

  8. Good editing job, same font and all.

Yes, Baldrick's guide explains everything. First you author the DVD without menus in Muxman, replacing the original French subs with your new Dutch ones. Don't forget to add in the chapters in File->Import Chapters. Then you have a playable DVD with no menus. Then the guide goes on to explain how to get back the menus. Open the original DVD in VobBlanker and replace the original movie with French subs with your new one with Dutch subs. At the same time you replace the original subtitle BMP with your edited one as described in my guide. After processing you should be able to select the Dutch subs in the subtitle menu. In PGCEdit you can also change the language ID from fr to nl.

I forsee a slight problem, though. The menu subpic will have the words 'Francais' from before. I don't think that will prevent you from selecting the Dutch subs, but it may look a little weird very briefly after clicking on the subs. The only cure for that is to extract the menu subpic (DVDSubEdit), edit to replace the Francais with Nederlands, replace it (DVDSubEdit), and then adjust the button size a little bit to take into account the longer word (PGCEdit). This is much more difficult. I was hoping that there would be a little square or something like that beside the language names to click on, but no such luck. But first you should get the DVD working correctly.

Alright, thanks again for your reply.

I've been messing around with that guide, but how can I replace the French subs into Dutch subs with Muxman?
And how do I change the language ID from fr to nl with PGCEdit?

    Thanks in advance!

EDIT: Never mind, I think I got it finally worked out! Thanks for your help!
